Humphrey Morrey, a merchant, was the son of Richard Morrey and Sarah Beesley; he was the grandson of Humphrey Morrey (d. 1716), the first mayor of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Morrey was related to the Budd family and two of his cousins, Edward Shippen and William Allen, became mayors of Philadelphia. Humphrey Morrey died in August 1735.
